FIDE launches the biggest online chess marathonDear Chess Friends,
The worldwide community is facing an unprecedented crisis with the Coronavirus pandemic and I heartfeltly hope that my letter finds you in good health and spirit. FIDE, supporting the efforts of all national governments and people all over the world, has decided to promote an online international initiative in order to give a creative outlet to those that have to spend many hours at home. Additionally, we promote the ideals of unity and solidarity which must be manifested in such times. Notice for the Chess Coaches in the CountyThe government has approved a regulation to make a proper Sports Coaching system for all sports in the country. No one without a valid coaching license will be allowed to work as a Chess Trainer from 1st January 2022.
Even we faced problem in identifying Chess Coaches to support at the CORONA Pandemic time. So, the Chess Federation has decided to register all Chess Coaches in the country and issue them a valid license through the Ministry of Sports. If there are untrained coaches, we will have a proper programme to train them and license them. Any, new people who are interested to get trained as a coach and work in schools may also apply. All trainers having FIDE titles are requested to send their name and the title with FIDE Id to following mail before 30th of June 2020. All those who are not having FIDE Trainer title or new comers may send their name, contact details and relation to Chess to the same Email before 30th of June 2020. Donation to COVID 19 Government Fund from Chess Community
This is to confirm that we have closed the collection and already Banked the amount of Rs. 1,000,000/= to the Government COVID 19 Fund as informed earlier.
As we see our huge Chess Community has narrowed to 64 people (Rs. 336,500/=) when the Chess Federation in need for a good course. Though the number is less, the contribution is huge averaging more than 5,000 per person. We pay our heartiest gratitude for all of the joined with us. I regret to see that even Chess giant who got maximum possible support from CFSL was not interested to at least think of the good course by spenting a small Rs. 500/=. I have sent repeated mails to most of them. There may be people working towards CORONA 19 problem and some have donated in other ways, But what we expected was to thinks as a Chess community from those who benefited from CFSL at least. we were expecting minimum of 500 people to support us and the amount we expected was nearly equal to what we got. Anyway, we hope that at least the people using most of CFSL facilities will think them as the Chess Community in future events. We appreciate the good thinking of all donated people and allow one person from the each donated family to be a part of our Online Programme as appreciation. Please forward your details accordingly. Donation to COVID 19 Government Fund from Chess Community
The most recent Donations are from WMMP Mapa (Under 16 Girls Champion) Rs. 2,500/ and Dinushki Premanath's (Two times Women's National Chess Champion) Family 5,000/=
The CFSL thank them for being members of Chess Family.
The recent donation is from Mr. Gayan Pieris, from Chess Family Rs. 5,000/=. Three, Father and two sons represented Sri Lanka in Chess Olympiads. Thanks Gayan.
It's increased from another 22,000/= from
1. Akuratiya Family 10,000/=
2. Kurunegala District Chess Association 12,000/=
CFSL wish to thank them also. Great support!
We are banking the amount Rupees one Million today and hope to hand over the documents in future to the relevant authorities.
I have made couple of mistakes in my last mail.
The number 11. is Tharindu Weerasekara, Our well known new FIDE Arbiter who donated Rs. 5,000/=. (not Wickramanayake.)
The No. 56 is newly appointed GDCA authority, Kasun Irantha Senadhira, not Rajitha. Both were my mistakes and I appologize for both of them.
Kashyapa Kulasekara, National Players from Kandy donated Rs. 2,000/= Later.
The Chess Federation hereby pay our heartiest gratitude again to all of you who supported us in this course in the most difficult situation. It's encouraging to see you people baking us with all social and economical troubles you are facing today.
We are very glad to say that our Chess community gave us a great support collecting Rs. 300,000/- withing this short period of 15 days. The bad thing is this community has narrowed to 58. But, there may be little more when thinking about the people donated to two District Associations and families.
Gampaha District Chess Association, who was the most active during past year was done the highest of 30,000/= + Their president and Secretary are also donating 3,000/= each while Kegalu District Chess Association also made Rs. 28,000/=.
